Golden Thread | November 23, 2025
Join Sylvia for the first of a new series of myth and writing workshops through the winter of 2025-2026. Each workshop will begin with Sylvia’s live telling of a fairytale or myth, followed by a short break, and then a series of guided writing exercises in the second hour to walk you deeper into the story’s landscapes, characters and living magic.
In this session, Sylvia will follow the threads of spinning crones into the nourishing heart of winter. She will tell the beautiful Scottish fairytale “The Stolen Bairn and the Sidh,” a story about a new mother and her journey to win back her baby from the fairies, and the guidance she receives from an old wise grandmother along the way. This is a story about the extraordinary and singular creative power that resides in each of us; a story about the magical strength of threads that are spun and woven and turned into song, and about a mother’s love. Sylvia will weave in elements of the German fairytale Mother Holle, about the crone of winter who lives at the bottom of a well, and the girl who finds her there at the other end of her dropped spindle. For those interested in a deeper dive into Mother Holle,
November 23rd 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM PST (ZOOM)
